Scotland (Civil Engineering)

Farrans Construction in Scotland carries out civil engineering works across the country from the regional office in Oakbank, Livingston.

The Scottish office has recently been award a 3km section of the capitals flagship contract, The Edinburgh Trams. This section of the project from the tram depot at Gogarburn to Edinburgh Airport involved the construction of a new bridge, three new culverts, a soil nailed embankment as well as nearly 200m of retaining wall alongside the Gogar Burn. Works are due to start within the next month so that the section can be opened for testing at the end of next year.

The Regional Office has recently started work on a major contract to build Smarter Schools for Dumfries and Galloway Council, this project will include the construction of 3 primary and 2 secondary schools in Dumfriesshire.

Works are also continuing on Scottish Water Solutions, Quality & Standards III framework. This multi million pound project to improve the quality of water supply in Scotland is being run from the regional office and is proving new experiences for many of our younger staff.

Works are also continuing on a new reinforced earth bridge being constructed on the outskirts of Falkirk as part of advanced works for Taylor Wimpy's new housing development. The main works to construct the reinforced embankments and to land the 18 metre long reinforced concrete beams is now complete with only the deck works remaining to be completed.

In addition our team at Glasgow Harbour has finished one of the Scottish divisions largest projects. This flagship contract involved the construction of two road bridges, a footbridge and a 62 metre single span river bridge over the River Kelvin in the west end of Glasgow. The project also involved the construction of a new local road infrastructure and high quality finishes to the footbridge.

The team from the Glasgow Harbour contract have now moved on to a new scheme at the SECC in Glasgow which involved the realignment of the local road network and major utilities diversions to facilitate the construction of a new 18,000 seat auditorium once our works are complete.
