Employability day at Farrans’ Public Transport Interchange project at Bristol Airport
The Griffiths Farrans JV project team working on the construction of the transformational Public Transport Interchange at Bristol Airport recently delivered employability support to a number of refugees based in the North Somerset Region.
Working in partnership with the North Somerset Council team, who support some of the growing multi-skilled community of refugees, the GFJV Social Value team developed a programme of activity that was delivered to a group of refugees with experience in the construction industry wanting to increase their knowledge of the industry in the UK and enable them to feel more job ready.
As part of the initiative the participants received a workshop on the topics of Health & Safety; Quality Management; Training & Qualifications along with tips on improving employability. The group then attended a site visit where they met members of the GFJV team working in various roles who provided an overview of their area of work and viewed live operations to understand site set up and activities.
This activity will aid economic growth, promote social integration and help refugees rebuild their lives. We are delighted that since completing their learning experience with us some of the participants have applied for and progressed through the selection process for construction roles based locally. It is anticipated that the rest of those who took part along with future refugees supported by the Council will benefit from the new connections made and increased knowledge of the industry.
