Farrans and FADO secure positions on £1.6bn Pagabo Healthcare Decarbonisation Framework

Farrans Construction and our fit-out and refurbishment arm FADO have secured positions on Pagabo’s £1.6bn healthcare decarbonisation scheme.

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is serving as the healthcare sector-specialist contracting authority for the framework, which will run for four years.

The suppliers appointed can provide a complete business solution for clients. This will allow clients to go directly to main contractors to undertake retrofit assessments, work up costs, self-deliver or bring in supply chain partners to deliver schemes, while serving as a single point of contact.

Typical projects may include the installation of specialist heating, cooling and ventilation systems, installation of renewable energy sources, fabric upgrades, installation of energy saving lighting, and replacement of inefficient glazing.

The framework has four value banded lots, applicable to the 12 geographical regions, giving a total of 48 sub-lots.

  • Lot 1 – up to £1m
  • Lot 2 – £1m to £5m
  • Lot 3 – £5m to £15m
  • Lot 4 – £15m+

Mark Beacom, pre-construction director for Farrans Construction, said: “We are delighted to have secured places on 15 sub-lots on this important framework. The decarbonisation of buildings is an area that we have been contributing to during the last decade. We are currently delivering two healthcare facilities to Passivhaus standards in England and we are on site with Leeds Bradford Airport LBA:REGEN Phase 1 which will play a significant part in the airport’s Net Zero Carbon Roadmap, with the installation of new efficient heating, lighting and machinery. We look forward to bringing our experience to Great Ormond Street Hospital to work collaboratively on solutions which will achieve a sustainable, cost effective and environmentally efficient future for the healthcare sector.”

Gavin Newburn, Director of Fado added: ‘”The decarbonisation of buildings has never been more important so it’s great to support key industry partners on their journey to a more sustainable future. As we currently support Pagabo on the Refit and Refurbishment Framework, we are delighted to continue our relationship with the team and to be appointed on several lots on the new healthcare version of its Decarbonisation Solutions Framework, delivering projects across the UK.’’

Jason Stapley, chief procurement officer at Pagabo, said: “Launching a brand-new, carefully created framework is always an exciting moment for us and the high demand for this healthcare-specific offering means the excitement is shared by our clients.

“Decarbonisation schemes are a common focus across the healthcare industry and its many estates at present, so this framework makes compliant access to specialist, experienced contractors as easy as possible.

“There are 29 SMEs appointed to this framework, once again demonstrating our commitment to creating opportunity and increasing competition – all in order to lead the way in public and private sector procurement.

“Our second new decarbonisation framework that is suited to other sectors has also recently launched, meaning that a huge number of clients will have even greater support with their net zero projects and strategies.”
