Farrans’ team on Leeds Bradford Airport volunteers at St Gemma’s Hospice
Our colleagues from Leeds Bradford Airport Phase 2 recently came together for a collaborative volunteering day supporting St Gemma’s Hospice and its network of charity shops across Leeds.
The day was organised following a previous suggestion to create a hands-on social value initiative that would directly benefit the local community.
After visiting the hospice itself and learning more about the incredible work carried out by St Gemma’s, the team selected the charity’s main distribution and sorting warehouse as the focus for the day.
Joining the initiative were Eddie Burton, Stakeholder and Social Value Manager, Vicky Stephens, Project Co-ordinator based at the Leeds Bradford Airport project, alongside three members of the Go Green Social Value team.
St Gemma’s Hospice operates 27 charity shops throughout Leeds, with the warehouse acting as the central hub for sorting and distributing donated goods. Throughout the day, the team worked together to sort approximately 200 bags of donations, separating items into categories including good quality stock, unsuitable items, and seasonal clothing ready for redistribution across the charity shop network.
Most importantly, the effort helped support the hospice’s vital fundraising activities and ensured donated items could quickly reach stores across the region.
The team described leaving with a strong sense of achievement and pride in supporting an organisation that provides such important care and support to the local community.💛
