A sod cutting ceremony with Health Minister Edwin Poots has marked the beginning of works for the 4.7m Bluestone Mental Health Unit at Craigavon Area Hospital.

This project, due for completion in summer 2014, will provide a 10-bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and a 10-bed Adult Learning Disability Assessment Unit, ensuring rapid access to acute emergency and diagnostic services for people in the Southern Trust area.

The design for the project has been developed by architects Milligan Reside Larkin Limited and O'Hagan and Associates Limited.
