Progress continues at Barsham Water Treatment Works

15.01.2025

Farrans is progressing well with its project for Essex and Suffolk Water at Barsham Water Treatment Works where we are designing, supplying and installing a new Bores Treatment Stream.

The work is part of the client’s investment to deliver improvement works which will provide a resilient supply of clean and clear water to its customers for decades to come.

Farrans work includes an interstage pumping station, a contact tank for the existing river works flow, a storage reservoir (20 Ml working volume) and a high lift pumping station for the combined flows. The project aims to provide a process plant capable of treating the full licence of the main abstraction bores and the emergency chalk bore.

Barsham Water Treatment Works supports supplies for around 75,000 customers in the county and Essex and Suffolk Water are investing £49.3m to enhance the resilience and quality of drinking water produced on the site. Work started in the summer of 2023 and is anticipated to be complete this Spring.

The project includes building a new covered reservoir capable of holding 20 million litres of treated water, ready for supply to customers across a wide geographical area, including the towns of Beccles, Bungay, Lowestoft and Southwold.

Alongside this, we’re adding new pumps, filters and tanks, as well as other plant and facilities that will help enhance and maintain supplies of clean, clear and great tasting tap water.
