RIBA London Award win for King’s College London Quadrangle Building
Our King’s College London Quadrangle Building project has won a prestigious RIBA London award for Education.
Working alongside the architects Hall McKnight Farrans were the main contractor delivering the refurbishment and alteration works to the Department of Engineering in the Quadrangle building.
King’s College London is one of the most prestigious universities in the United Kingdom. The Quadrangle building is a two-storey basement located under the existing external quadrangle deck in an area of significant heritage located between the Grade I listed King’s Building and Somerset House, stretching between the prestigious areas of The Strand and The Embankment.
The RIBA Journal said: “This project has overcome many complex challenges to transform lost space into useful accommodation, and also provide a precious new piece of the central London public realm. The new quadrangle space immeasurably improves the setting and access to two of the Grade I-listed structures of Somerset House East Wing and the King’s Building, and provides adaptable spaces for students and staff of King’s College London.”
