Virtual Supplier Engagement Day to profile opportunities on Cork student accommodation project

2.02.2022

Farrans Construction will be holding a virtual supplier engagement day on Thursday 10th February to profile an extensive list of opportunities available for local businesses on its 623-bed student development in Cork, which is being built for client CA Ventures.

Located on Carrigrohane Road, at the old Coca Cola bottling site, the scheme will serve students at the University College Cork, the city’s University Hospital and the Cork Institute of Technology. This is the largest student development in Cork as well as one of the biggest student accommodation projects in Munster and Ireland.

The 10-storey development will have a gross floor area of approximately 19,267 sq m. and include an onsite gym, common networking spaces, cycle storage, studio space and a sky lounge with views of the River Lee.

The rooms will include en-suite toilets and showers, premium furnishings, kitchenettes with burners, appliances, a fridge and countertop and cabinet space.

The new Novel Student community will also include a range of shared amenities – such as study and meeting rooms, tea lounges, gym and relaxation rooms and breakfast bars with complimentary coffee. There will be shared spaces, rooftop amenities, an outdoor courtyard and bike storage.

Gary Blair, head of building supply chain for Farrans Construction, said: “We are looking forward to engaging with local businesses in the Cork region to profile available work in the pipeline on our project on Carrigrohane Road. We are holding two sessions on Thursday 10th, one in the morning and one in the evening, to try to facilitate attendance for as many people as possible.

“During these sessions suppliers will find out more about this exciting project, hear from our senior team about our presence in Ireland and learn about our process to become a supplier to Farrans. We are actively growing our supply chain in Ireland and on this project we are seeking specialists in areas such as bricklaying, painting and decorating, metalworkers, fixed furniture and kitchens and more.

“Farrans has a long history of working in Cork and our civil engineering division has recently completed the Cobh Lower Harbour Main Drainage Scheme on behalf of Irish Water as a JV with Sorensen. Our team is on site delivering three planned strategic water supply upgrade projects for Irish Water, working in partnership with Cork City Council. As part of these projects we are delivering social value on the ground and working with some fantastic organisations like Field of Dreams, Cork Life Centre, Good Shepherd North Mall, Strawberry Hill National School, Blarney Street CBS and Cork Penny Dinners.”

He concluded: “We want to leave a positive lasting impact in the areas that we are working and we can do this best by working closely with our local supply chain during our 24 month contract on Carrigrohane Road.”
