Farrans recognised as Responsible Plastic Management Programme Engaged Member

20.10.2026

Farrans is pleased to announce that we have been recognised as an Engaged Member of the Responsible Plastic Management (RPM) Programme, alongside our aim to achieve Zero Plastic to Landfill status.

The recognition reflects Farrans’ ongoing commitment to improving how we manage plastic across our operations and to identifying practical ways to reduce the environmental impact of plastic waste. As part of our membership of the RPM Programme, Farrans is taking steps to strengthen responsible plastic management practices across our business, supporting our wider commitment to sustainability and resource efficiency.

Our Zero Plastic to Landfill aim further demonstrates our commitment to diverting plastic waste away from landfill and exploring more sustainable approaches to waste management. We are proud to receive these accolades and to be working with the Responsible Plastic Management Programme as we continue to develop our approach to responsible resource use.

At our Castor Bay site, we are taking proactive measures to achieve Zero Plastic to Landfill Certification by reducing plastic waste, improving segregation practices, and increasing recycling and recovery opportunities across the project.

A key step in this journey has been establishing baseline waste data and enhancing ongoing reporting processes. This data-driven approach enables the project team to accurately measure performance, identify improvement opportunities, and make informed decisions as we progress towards our Zero Plastic to Landfill objectives.

To support improved waste segregation, we have successfully repurposed recycling bins from our former Transport Hub project for use at Castor Bay. These bins are now used to collect plastic waste from the site canteen, giving existing resources a second home.

As an NI Water IF105 project, achieving Zero Plastic to Landfill certification at Castor Bay delivers benefits beyond the project itself. Certification will also contribute to NI Water’s Zero plastic to landfill certification as well as their sustainability objectives.

At Farrans, sustainability is an important part of how we deliver projects and operate as a business. We recognise the role that the construction industry can play in reducing waste, improving resource efficiency and supporting a more sustainable future. We look forward to building on this achievement and continuing our work with the RPM Programme as we progress towards further improvements in responsible plastic management.

Together, we are taking practical steps towards a more sustainable future.
