Farrans’ volunteers with British Heart Foundation as part of Sustainable September activities

As part of BITC Sustainable September, our team recently took time out to volunteer with the British Heart Foundation (BHF), supporting the charity’s local clearance shop and helping the team get ready for an important audit taking place this week.

It was a fantastic day of teamwork, getting stuck in and making a real difference behind the scenes. Working alongside Una and the BHF team, we helped with a variety of tasks around the shop, from preparing seasonal displays to getting stock organised and ready for customers. During the day, the team helped with:

• Creating a Christmas display, helping to bring some festive spirit to the shop and showcase seasonal items.
• Organising Halloween stock, making sure items were sorted and ready for customers.
• Filling goodie bags, preparing treats and surprises for shoppers.
• Supporting on the shop floor, helping with general organisation and keeping things running smoothly.
• Running a cupcake fundraiser, handing out cupcakes to customers and encouraging donations.

The cupcake fundraiser was a particular highlight, raising more than £120 in cash for the BHF. For a clearance shop where items are priced between just £1 and £3, this is a significant amount and demonstrates how small contributions can quickly add up to make a meaningful difference.

Beyond the fundraising, the day was a great opportunity to support a charity that relies heavily on its network of volunteers and donated goods. By helping with the day-to-day running of the shop, we were able to free up valuable time for the BHF team while helping to prepare the store ahead of its audit.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and brought so much energy and enthusiasm to the day. It was a great example of how, by working together, we can support our local communities, contribute to good causes and make a positive impact through our volunteering activity.
