Govan to Partick Bridge shortlisted for Footbridge Awards 2025 in Switzerland

8.07.2025

We are happy to announce that Farrans has been shortlisted for the Footbridge Awards 2025 in the Moveable Bridge category for our successful project: the Govan to Partick bridge, commissioned by Glasgow City Council.

Every three years the Footbridge Awards celebrate the engineering innovation, skills and designs behind the most inspiring footbridge projects around the world, not to mention the talented teams behind them.

The £29.5 million Glasgow City Region City Deal project, backed by both the Scottish and UK Governments, restored the historic link between Govan and Partick. This features the footbridge that spans from Water Row on the south side to Pointhouse Quay on the north.

The bridge holds substantial significance on economic, environmental, and social fronts by creating connections not only between communities but also to various visitor attractions and institutions of national economic importance. Additionally, it serves as a vital component of the active travel route linking the University of Glasgow’s campus at Gilmorehill with the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

The Govan – Partick Bridge stands as one of the longest opening pedestrian and cycle bridges in Europe.

It features a width of six metres and comprises two spans:

  • The moving span, which weighs 650 tonnes, stretches 99 metres long and utilizes the South Pier at Water Row for access.
  • The fixed span, weighing 45 tonnes, measures 15.7 metres in length.

We are eagerly anticipating the awards ceremony scheduled for September 3, 2025, Chur, Switzerland.
