7.05.2026

In a significant step towards championing mental health and welfare support in the construction sector, the Lighthouse Charity’s Make It Visible team recently visited our AMIDs South construction site in Renfrewshire.

The visit featured an interactive session with the site team, reinforcing the message that wellbeing should be a visible and accessible priority for all workers.

About the Make It Visible initiative
The Make It Visible on site initiative is a dedicated initiative under the Lighthouse Charity, an organisation who deliver 24/7 free and confidential holistic emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support. committed to supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of construction workers and their families. Their mission is to break down barriers and ensure that anyone facing hardship can easily find help and guidance when it’s most needed.

Session Highlights: Shining a Light on Support
During the session, the team engaged openly with the AMIDs South team, sharing practical advice and personal stories to normalise conversations about mental health. They discussed common challenges faced by construction workers and emphasised the importance of reaching out for support, both for oneself and others.

Importance of Visible Support on Site
The construction industry has struggled with the stigma of talking openly about poor mental health, but initiatives like Make It Visible are changing the narrative. By normalsiing conversations around wellbeing and making support resources clear and accessible, we can ensure that no worker or their family feels alone in a crisis. Addressing this stigma is not just important; it’s essential for creating a safer, more supportive working environment.

Accessing Support
A crucial element of the charity’s strategy is to provide a range of free and widely available reactive and proactive resources to support the industry.
They offer a free and confidential 24/7 helpline, live web chat service and text facility which provides a range of information, guidance and support on a variety of wellbeing issues. These services are complemented by their free self-support app, along with their Lighthouse Beacons who provide a safe space for people to share concerns.  The charity’s Wellbeing Academy offers a variety of free soft skills and leadership
