Social value recognition for Farrans at Northumbrian Water GEM awards

20.11.2025

We are delighted to announce that our work on the Project Pipeline: County Durham and Tees Valley for Northumbrian Water Group (NWG) has been recognised as Runner-Up in the Social Value category at the 2025 GEM Awards.

The project involves the installation of approximately 34 km of new 800mm diameter pipeline across County Durham and the Tees Valley region, including strategic river crossings under the River Tees and Alwent Beck.

Within this major infrastructure programme, Farrans has placed strong emphasis on delivering meaningful social value: engaging local communities, supporting apprenticeships and training, collaborating with social enterprises and charities, and sustaining investment in the region beyond the construction works.

The GEM Awards are NWG’s way of celebrating supply partners that go the extra mile, those who deliver not only on technical, cost and programme requirements, but also make a positive, measurable impact on the communities in which they work.

Achieving runner-up status in the Social Value category is a strong endorsement of Farrans’ commitment to sustainable community-focused delivery. It recognises our efforts to embed value, social, economic and environmental, into everything we do.

This achievement reflects the dedication, ingenuity and teamwork shown by all involved, our site teams, supply chain, local partners and community stakeholders. This commitment ensures we don’t simply build infrastructure: we build a lasting legacy.

We remain committed to raising the bar in social value performance. As the Project Pipeline works continue, we will carry forward our focus on legacy-led delivery, ensuring the communities around County Durham and Tees Valley benefit long after the pipeline is in service.

Congratulations to everyone involved in making this recognition possible.
