Supporting accessibility and community wellbeing at Uncle Paul’s Chilli Charity

The Griffiths Farrans team are proud to have supported Uncle Paul’s Chilli Charity, a local organisation located just ten minutes from the Bristol Airport Public Transport Interchange project, by delivering essential improvements to their site access.

The charity empowers socially disadvantaged people with barriers to learning and/ or disabilities through a unique blend of education, wellbeing activities, and social prescribing on their 40‑acre community farm.

During early engagement with the charity, introduced to us by the Bristol Airport community team, staff highlighted a significant challenge: the condition of the farm’s driveway. In poor weather, the uneven and deteriorated surface made access extremely difficult for staff, volunteers and service users. Larger vehicles transporting wheelchair users were often unable to reach the site at all during winter months.

Recognising the impact this had on the charity’s ability to deliver its services, our groundworks and surfacing teams stepped in to help.

Working closely with the charity, our teams improved the driveway’s sub‑base and laid a new, durable surface to ensure safe, reliable access in all weather conditions. This work, valued at £15,500, fulfils the remaining social value commitments under the Bristol Airport Public Transport Interchange contract and builds on previous support provided to the charity, including:

• Donation of new picnic benches
• Skilled labour to install and roof gazebo structures
• Ongoing engagement with staff and volunteers

The improved driveway will enable all service users, including those with mobility needs, to access the charity’s cabins, community spaces and wellbeing activities for years to come.
