Team Farrans volunteers at Habitat for Humanity Restore

2.10.2025

This week nine volunteers from Farrans, as part of Farrans’ Employee Volunteer Programme, rolled up their sleeves and got to work at the Habitat for Humanity Restore shop in Lisburn.

There was a constant stream of donations coming in from the local community which needed to be unloaded, cleaned, sorted and priced by our team before going out to the shop front ready for reuse.

All of this work is supported by a huge team of 80 regular volunteers. We got to speak to a couple of them and learn how coming to the store gives them a sense of purpose.

The volunteers included retired business owners and people who take part alongside part-time work. All of these volunteers had one thing in common; the belief that through coming together, people have the power to make a positive difference in our community.

CEO Jenny Williams talked our team through the business mission and priorities – all people deserve a decent place to work.

In addition to supporting global issues and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals their work locally supports three key areas:

  • Sustainability – Reusing items – diverting waste from landfill
  • A local option for savvy shoppers and bargain hunters
  • Most importantly helping people who are struggling to ensure they have a decent place to live

As a business Farrans supports two volunteer days for every employee per year.

Thank you for hosting our team. We were pleased to make a difference!
