What made our social value programme on Belfast Grand Central Station so worthy of a British Construction and Infrastructure Award?

At the outset of Farrans Sacyr JV’s discussions with our client Translink we made sure the positive impact we could have was at the centre of our operations. We did this by:

• Appointing a dedicated Stakeholder and Social Value Co-Ordinator
• Engaging with local community groups, political representatives and businesses
• Addressing the skills shortage by creating apprenticeships and placement positions
• Hosting careers events with local schools to showcase the opportunities in the sector
• Arranging an extensive programme of site visits for schools and training providers
• Working to promote industry through regional partners such as CEFNI, CITBNI and CIOB
• Inspiring our team and partners to take part in fundraising initiatives which included climbing mountains, Dragon Boat races and cycling challenges
• Organising a unique charity ball experience at the Ulster Transport Museum
• With the support of our supply chain, we donated in excess of 900 hours of staff time and over £33,000 in materials and supplies.

The collaboration and shared vision between our client, our partners on this project and our supply chain ensured we delivered results which will change lives and benefit the local area for many years to come.
