Workshops for World Water Day
World Water Day is held on 22nd March every year to celebrate water and raise awareness of the 2 billion people who are living without access to safe water.
This year we hosted three days of workshops alongside Engineers Ireland and invited eight 15 and 16 year old students from different schools across Cork to visit our Cork City Upgrade Project for Uisce Éireann.
Our site visits provided an insight into all sides of our business, from working on the ground to what goes on behind the scenes. Our interactive workshops, videos, real-life scenarios and learning from some of our own engineers allowed the students to develop a diverse set of transferrable skills. Topics covered included engineering, sustainability, health and safety and careers in construction.
Over the three days they had an important question to answer – how can we measure, monitor and conserve water better on our construction sites? From collecting rainfall to moderating our usage, they completed the week with a presentation to our sustainability advisor.
