Farrans leads employability sessions at Leeds City College
Eddie Burton, our Stakeholder and Social Value Manager, along with Kimberley Dean, our Senior Recruiter, recently visited Leeds City College’s Printworks campus to present sessions on careers in construction and employability.
Thirty T-level students attended the session, which addressed various topics including Farrans’ local projects, roles, employability and apprenticeships.
The social value activity is part of Farrans’ project at Leeds Bradford Airport where we have successfully delivered Phase 1 which consisted of a terminal extension. We are now on site on the refurbishment of the existing terminal (Phase 2) of LBA: REGEN and it is expected to complete in Winter 2026.
The visit helped to inspire and inform students about the diverse opportunities and career paths that the construction industry has to offer, including apprenticeships. They highlighted the hands-on experience and mentorship that apprenticeships offer, allowing students to earn while they learn and develop skills that are directly applicable to real-world projects.
Farrans presented real-life examples of successful projects we are involved in, highlighting the beneficial effects on the communities which have had a positive and long-lasting societal impact on the local communities.
Additionally, the team also made themselves available for students who would like to participate in mock interviews over the summer months, offering time and email support. This initiative was warmly received by the students, who appreciated the opportunity to gain firsthand experience and practical advice from industry professionals.
This collaboration for the event between Leeds City College and Farrans exemplifies a strong commitment to bridging the gap within the construction industry. By giving students direct access to industry knowledge and expertise, it not only prepares them for the demands of the workforce but also motivates them to pursue careers in the industry.
