The BCIA’s celebrate and honour the outstanding contributions of the British construction industry to society and Belfast Grand Central Station was an excellent representation of this. Farrans Sacyr JV placed social value at the heart of operations from the outset of the contractual negotiation stage.

The robust social value plan ensured positive integration with partners and wider community engagement.

Throughout the project approximately 180 employment opportunities were created for local people and over 5,500 young people were engaged with.

The judges commented that this project was “a strong example of quantifiable and pioneering benefits which could set the standard for industry more widely. The judges felt the community tensions and particularly the challenge of stakeholder management in that environment was impressive, and the visual presentation, including the ‘tree’ showed the project in a very inclusive and engaging way.”

The wider project delivery team secured other accolades with Arup winning the Engineering Excellence Award and Translink receiving a Highly Commended in the Digital Impact category for Belfast Grand Central Station.
