Placement Opportunities: Find out what it is really like to join Farrans
Are you considering applying to our Placement opportunities for 2026? Victoria McClements has joined Farrans as our Business Improvement Placement this year. Find out what her experience has been like so far.
What attracted you to Farrans in the first place?
I wanted to be part of a company where I could gain real hands-on experience and Farrans offered plenty of opportunities to get involved first hand instead of being on the sidelines. Being able to be a part of the GAP Programme (Graduate, Placement and Apprentice) is a great opportunity where you have the chance to return to the Farrans Foundation, working as a graduate on a 2 year programme, while you gain experience and knowledge to fast track your future career.
How did you find the recruitment and onboarding period?
The recruitment process was straightforward and user-friendly, making it easy to apply for roles. The onboarding period was well-structured and informative, with induction days that provided a great opportunity to meet other placement students and settle into the role quickly. For me in a role outside of engineering, construction and quantity surveying, it was a great opportunity to learn about what my colleagues were doing and then how I could best support them in business improvement.
What advice would you give to new people considering joining Farrans?
Farrans is a brilliant company to work for as everyone is very friendly and happy to help you with any questions you may have. They care about you as a person not just an employee and have helped me grow and learn from not just within my role but multiple different departments within the company.
What surprised you most about working at Farrans?
One of the best parts of working here is how easy it is to connect with anyone regardless of department or project. People are genuinely eager to help you and you are encouraged to learn and grow. You’re not limited to learning within your own team; the opportunities to grow across disciplines are endless.
